“I express myself in sculpture since I am not a poet”
— Aristide Maillol

From Gavin Roberts

As an artist craftsman I use timber, stone and steel to create the useful through to the whimsical by drawing out the unseen, mysterious and imaginative aspects from the seemingly obvious side of nature. An award winning member of the Association of Sculptors of Victoria I have exhibited widely since moving to Stratford in 2009 and have been commissioned for many pieces of public art throughout Australia.

Highlights of my artistic career include being part of the published international touring exhibition “A Gathering of spoons” and being Artist and Project manager for “the Stratford Arts trail” involving 7 artists, 9 public works, music, performance, storytelling and sculpture through festivals Australia installed in our own town.

I would like to thank the hundreds of other crafts people and artists that have dedicated time to encourage and teach me over the years, the association of sculptors Victoria who are a voluntary Artist run sculpture support organization and of cause my family whom without their encouragement and patience I would not be in the privileged position of practicing my art.

Gavin Roberts is a full-time practicing sculptor, an award-winning member of the Association of Sculptors of Victoria since 2010 and has a background in Architecture. He has exhibited widely since his first sold out solo exhibition “One man’s nature” back in 2013.

Roberts work continues to evolve as he travels to exhibit his unique works across Australia. Roberts has recently exhibited in the Gippsland Art Gallery with his exhibition “Totem” and completed commissions for private collections and public institutions. Recently his unique work has again been been recognized publicly and by his peers in the 2024 Melbourne International Flower and Garden show winning first prize in a highly competitive “Estate” section. Roberts’ four meter long metal fabricated Protea was outstanding and eye-catching. His entry into the 2024 Bermagui Sculpture exhibition “Siren” a commanding work of a mystical woman, hair blowing, looking out to sea perched on a hilltop, won the major people’s choice award.

His work and presence in the sculpture field continues to grow. He was recently been the feature sculptor in the Association of Sculptors website. It is astounding to list the achievements of a man like Gavin and yet you feel like he has only just begun to scratch the surface on what he is capable of.” Gippsland Life magazine 2024.
